Final Fantasy Resonance is out: a classic turn-based FF in HD-2D

Square Enix retells Brave Exvius’ first story arc without gacha, in the Octopath Traveler art style.
Square Enix’s new game Final Fantasy Resonance launched on October 22 for PC (Steam), PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch and Switch 2. It is a turn-based adventure that takes the series back to its roots.
From mobile to console, without gacha
Resonance retells the first story arc of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, the mobile game that has since shut down. Developed by Square Enix with LANCARSE, it drops gacha mechanics entirely. Visually it uses the HD-2D style familiar from Octopath Traveler.

Gameplay
Turn-based combat built around elemental weaknesses
A summon system called “Visions”
Fully voiced dialogue
About 30 hours for the main story, over 50 with side content
Scores
Game Informer gave it 9/10 with a “Must Play” label, IGN 8/10 and GameSpot 7/10. The average across 45 critics is 87. The most common criticism is the story and pacing, said to be leftovers from its mobile origins.
Price
The game costs $49.99 on Steam.
